01/01/2022

Idea: Warsaw youth wheelchair rugby team – Cinco Colores Tigers WR

Description: From June 2022 to June 2023, we ran a youth wheelchair rugby project in Warsaw. We invite children and youth aged 12 and above who want to start their journey in Paralympic sport to get in touch.

Budget: 100,000 PLN [covering sports wheelchairs, hall rental, coaching, and physiotherapy support – project suspended due to a decision by the board of the Polish Wheelchair Rugby Association].

Why wheelchair rugby?

Wheelchair rugby is a spectacular Paralympic sport that breaks all stereotypes about disability in sports. Why is it worth trying?

1. It is the only full-contact sport for athletes in wheelchairs.

2. Men and women can play together on the same team.

3. It has been a Paralympic sport at the Paralympic Games since 2000.

"If you want to be happy for an hour, take a nap. If you want to be happy for a day, go fishing. If you want to be happy for a month, get married. If you want to be happy for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want to be happy for a lifetime, help someone else."

— Chinese proverb

The project was carried out in Warsaw at the AWF Warsaw sports hall by experienced specialists in disability sports and qualified physiotherapists, in cooperation with the Polish Wheelchair Rugby Association.
